It connects Oil City with Oil Creek State Park while passing by the McClintock Well. This well is a National Historic Landmark. Its the world's oldest producing oil well. This section of trail is also an important link of the Erie to Pittsburgh Trail. Empowering Sustainable Development

PPCF

Board of Trustees

The Pennsylvania Recreation & Park Society (PRPS) established a People, Parks & Community Foundation (PPCF). The PPCF is a 501c3 subsidiary of the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society and is managed by a separate Board of Trustees. The Foundation aims to create lasting impacts on communities across Pennsylvania by fostering meaningful connections between people, parks, and neighborhoods.  September 13, 2024, John Conroy was selected by the PRPS Board of Directors to be a founding member of the Board of Trustees for this new foundation. What an honor to be selected as one of nine founding trustees! Trustees will play a pivotal role in empowering underfunded communities, enhancing the stewardship of natural resources, and driving environmental, social, and economic outcomes that improve the livability of Pennsylvania towns and cities.

Recent Experience

December 2024 until Present

In conjunction with Stahl Sheaffer Engineering, Current Environmental, LLC. was selected by Moon Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania to perform professional planning services on converting a 1.25-mile Hirshinger Road from an underutilized dilapidated Township-owned Road to a pedestrian/bike and conservation corridor. The Project is complementary to and required for the reconstruction of Montour Run Road Marketplace Boulevard (Road Construction Project) being undertaken by Moon Transportation Authority (MTA). The challenge will be to come up with a practical and feasible design to convert the road into a pedestrian/bike corridor that includes a pathway, with conservation and recreation elements. The goal is to also connect to the Montour Trail, Montour Woods Greenway Trail, and Marketplace District (700-acres of private development.) We’re looking forward to working with this very strong and supportive partnership established between the Project’s partners; namely, Moon Township, MTA, Hollow Oak Land Trust, Montour Trail Council, and private developers.

Project Approach

Current promotes sustainability in our business approach and the communities where we work. It’s accomplished through an on-going development of environmentally responsible business practices and consulting services.  We integrate environmentally responsible consulting into the framework of each client’s project to reduce the environmental footprint and meet project purpose and needs. Where feasible we develop scope of works that contribute to the economic and environmental growth of communities. Our projects prove environmental responsibility and development can be compatible.

High-quality cold-water fisheries (HQCWF) and exceptional value (EV) streams like those pictured here are valuable resources that need our protection.

Permit Acquisitions

Our proven track record in navigating complex permit acquisitions streamlines the process for our clients while seeking regulatory compliance. Project manager for Cast-A-Way Riverboat Landing & Marina at Staion Square.

Environmental Investigations

Through cutting-edge techniques, we conduct thorough environmental investigations to ensure compliance and sustainable practices. Project management for the Ewing Interchange on I-376 Business. NEPA Final EIS Reevaluation.

Community Development Projects

We spearhead community development projects that prioritize environmental sustainability and community well-being, making a positive difference. Project manager for City of Bradford Community Trail Project.

Public Involvement

Empowering people for public acceptance.

Our staff members are successful planners and scientists, and we look on ourselves as environmental educators. We strive to inform our clients, and when necessary, the public about how natural environments function and how we can manage our actions on ecosystems to live sustainably. This is accomplished by using a variety of public involvement efforts. To educate the public and other audiences, these efforts include print materials, websites, media campaigns, public meetings, key person interviews and surveys. We have been heavily involved in public involvement campaigns when projects required National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) clearances and other mandated public involvement campaigns such as those required by PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (PADCNR) grants.

Land Development, Transportation & Trails

NEPA Environmental Assessment for PA 65 overpass in Leetsdale involving improved residential access and industrial park access. Studies included: streams & wetlands, hazardous waste, cultural resources, parks & recreation (4f), air & noise analysis, and community cohesion. Project stakeholders included: Allegheny County, PennDOT 11-0, Norfolk Southern Railroad, and the Buncher Industrial Park in addition to Leetsdale Borough officials & residents.

Energy Projects

Pipelines, Compression & Metering Stations

We conduct wetland identification and delineation for pipelines, compression and metering stations. This also includes perennial stream investigations. When required, an alternatives analysis is also conducted to determine the most feasible and practical alternative. It aids in obtaining waterways encroachment permits in a cost-effective and timely manner. We can design mitigation sites and conduct monitoring as prescribed by the agencies. Site investigations also include threatened and endangered species reviews.

We assist in agency coordination to assist in the permitting process.
